If you are as sexually ignorant as I used to be many years ago, then you probably go to the store and buy the best looking most marketed bottle of lubricant (or least expensive) and leave it at that for your sex lube. Well, there is actually more to lubes than just a pretty bottle and some slick stuff inside. Most sex stores unfortunately don't have them seperated based on their use or give us any explaination as to which ones to use for which kind of sexual activity we are going to need them for later. There are also myths that surround your sex lubricants such as the fact that only dried up old women should use lubes on their vagina. Here's the reality check for you! Everyone (let me say that again, everyone) should use lubricants when you are partaking in any kind of sexual activity. Lubricants should be one of your best friends in your sexual relationship. They should always be there for you no matter what, easy to clean up, and make your experience alot more fun and exciting. It doesn't matter if you are having vaginal sex, anal sex, or even masturbating with or without sex toys.
The main thing to realize when you are looking for a proper lubricant (which I will refer to from this point on as a lube) is the fact that their makeup consistencies are the important factor to note depending on what exactly you are trying to lube up and the environment you will be using it.
Basic lubes are made up of water based materials, silicone based materials, and oil based properties. Water based lubes are safe to use with condoms and provide increased comfort pretty much with any sex (except that which is in the water) because the water based lube will wash right off. Silicone Based Lubricants seem to stay wet longer than any water-based lubricant and will not dry prematurely or get sticky. Their silky smooth, silicone formula is generally latex (condom) friendly and works great when used in water that is why we recommend the silicone based lubes for your waterproof sex toys. We recommend oil based lubes for a great sexual massage or they also are wonderful for male masturbation, but we don't recommend them for sexual activity as they can cause infections in the vagina and are not condom friendly.
Which lubricant do I use for anal sex? That is a question we receive more often than you can imagine. We generally recommend a good solid water based lubricant (one that's marketed as an anal lube is even better) because the water based is easy to clean up and is condom friendly. You can use silicone based lubes for anal sex, but they seem to be a little stickier and somewhat harder to clean up afterwards. Silicone lubricants will tear up any toys you use that are made of silicone (lots of sex toys are now made of silicone) so it might just be best to use water based lubes for anal sex. The key in anal sex is to relax and not let the old ridiculous taboo about anal sex being only for gay men affect your enjoyment. Anal sex can be just as pleasurable for women as it can for men.
